The Changing World of The Book The World Is Open

The World Is Open Book By Curtis Bonk

They all paraded before us one-by-one. Why? Well, the democratic nomination remained up for grabs and Indiana was one of the key remaining states yet to vote. Our turn was May 6th. And the two democratic candidates each firmly believed that they would be the one who could win in November and bring the world some positive change. Obama gave a thoughtful, humorous, and highly engaging speech for more than an hour that night in the world. As a highly skilled basketball player, he quickly realized that he was standing on hallowed ground. And the world was open with nearly 13,000 people chanting, screaming, singing, and at times, personally praying. This was a much larger crowd than Bill Clinton had drawn earlier in the month. As I alluded to, Obama was running on a platform of world change and the continual chanting of "Yes, we can." When addressing the issue of why he is running at what some consider a young age of 46, he referenced Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s 1964 book, Why We Can't Wait, and said "we cannot wait, and that is why I am running right now for president."

When it comes to education The World Is Open!

. Like any good politician, Obama detailed many social, political, and economic problems facing us and a few gut-wrenching stories of those he has visited in Indiana who lacked jobs or health insurance. He then argued that our future depends on an excellent educational system. Education underlies any economic might. Still, I wanted to hear more specifics. I wanted to know the types of educational programs he would create. And I naturally was keen to hear about any online initiatives and ideas. Obama certainly must have known about the Web of Learning. But what would he do with it? And how would he support its growth and use? Those people seated around me were likely asking similar questions. In fact, a few months later, the word "education" ranked among the top search terms among Americans for those looking up information about Obama's campaign as well as his Republican rival, John McCain. Education clearly was a key issue for Americans, just as it was for everyone else in the world. We are in the midst of an educational transformation.
